Leadership drives person-centredness in residential aged care

We recommend this Australian Nursing & Midwife Journal article to anyone wanting to embed person-centred leadership within a residential aged care home to foster a caring community alongside good clinical practice.

This study from Charles Sturt University explored how two aged care homes with positive local reputations, create a culture where person-centredness is lived, not just spoken. The article highlights opportunities for transformative change within aged care homes and the essential role of authentic leadership in fostering meaningful connections for residents, family members, and staff.

The key findings of the research relate to three major themes with implications for clinical practice:

1. Caring for the whole person

2. The person-centred environment

3. Person-centred leadership
